NYG&B Members enjoy exclusive access to the eLibrary, which contains our growing collection
of digitized records, manuscripts, and publications and provides valuable information for people
researching family histories in New York State.
To optimize your experience of the eLibrary, please read our User’s Guide to the eLibrary, which can be
found on our website on the page Welcome to the eLibrary for NYG&B Members.
Use Advanced Search to search the full contents of any collection labeled as Advanced Searchable or to
search the title and catalog record of other collections that appear on the Advanced Search menu.
Advanced Search is most successful when using the default setting to search Across all Fields. Selected
Fields such as Title and Subject do not relate to individual articles, but to the items that form the
collection. However, a search in the Title field is useful if you want to go directly to a specific year or a
specific volume of The Record (type vol. followed by the three-digit volume number, e.g. 024, 093).
To change the sort order for Advanced Search, select the Preferences tab. A sort in order of Title will
group the issues that comprise a volume in consecutive order.
Documents that are labeled Advanced Searchable are in a single-page format that is cumbersome to
use. Best bet: once you have the results of your Advanced Search, view the Easy Read version of the
same document.
All collections may be searched at the item level. Click on an individual title within any collection
and use the search menu on the left-hand side of the page. If the search menu is hidden, click on the
binoculars icon to reveal it.
